Helen Williams – SETE 2018 Keynote Speaker
Principal Manager Systems - Transport for New South Wales
Helen is a chartered engineer with qualifications in Aeronautical Engineering and Railway Signalling Engineering. She spent her early career in the UK Royal Air Force; initially as a first line engineering manager and then in various management and technical roles. She specialised in system safety for complex and critical systems, working for several years in the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, testing and evaluating jet aircraft.
Eight years ago, Helen moved to Australia from Wales to work for Sydney’s metropolitan rail network; then known as RailCorp and now Sydney Trains. She fell in love with Australia and has made it her home. Since then she has worked across the NSW Transport Cluster, in risk management, systems assurance and engineering systems integrity.
Helen is currently building an integrated team that offers rail systems technology and strategy, best practice in systems engineering, operational integration and systems assurance to programs across the Infrastructure & Services Division of Transport for New South Wales.
Helen is passionate about building an inclusive, flexible team that attracts and develops great people.
Outside work Helen enjoys keeping her three teenagers out of trouble, taking them to explore NSW in a well-equipped trailer tent, seeking out the most beautiful spots and the best live music.
